Students will use dance and film to respond to an environment. Dance students will use the following criteria to include in their response: Inspiration, Level changes, Movement dynamics, Performance, Duration, Beginning, Middle, and End.
Film students will use the following criteria to include in their responses: Inspiration, Duration, Beginning, Middle, and End, Shot Variety, Creative Angles. Students will analyze the work of their peers.

Instruction will include Demonstration, Discussion, and Small Group Activities.

Procedures & Activities:
1. The dance and film students will view and discuss video clips of Maya Deren's work, paying attention to the use of camera angels to show point of view.
2. The film and dance teachers will select an environment for the students to respond to, being aware of textures, traffic, and sounds.
3. The students will observe the environment, making notes and sketching the area.
4. Students will select an inspiration. This can be an object, an element, textures, sounds or anything else found in the performance environment.
5. Students will create a response using their art area--Dance: choreograph a phrase consisting of 6 counts of 8; Film: shoot a minimum of 3 shots (wide, med, tight) of each environmental component.
6. teachers will pair one film student with one dance student . they will show and discuss their responses to the environment and create a plan for their film & dance collaboration.
7. The film student will film the dance student performing their response in the environment. The film student must shoot 3 points of view, 3 times through, using wide, medium, and tight shots.
8. Dance and film students will watch the footage and make a plan for editing the footage into their final product.
9. The students will edit their footage and show to the entire group and answer questions regardingtheir choices for movement and film editing.
10. Students will choose 1 film to create a written response to based on given criteria.
