Using Technology to Help with the Writing Process

Georgia Performance Standard: ELA5W4; using the stages of the writing process

Materials: student essays, SMART Board, SMART Document Camera 280

Procedures:
Before having students complete the exercise, the teacher should first show the students one of his/her rough drafts from the Writer's Notebook. He/She can put the copy under the SMART Document Camera 280 so the entire class can see the draft on the SMART Board. He/She can then model the revising and editing stages of the writing process by using the SMART Board pens to move text around and make corrections to the writing piece.

After completing their rough drafts, have students share their work with each other. Students may then volunteer to show their work to the entire class using the SMART Document Camera 280 and SMART Board. The teacher and students can then work together as a group to complete the revising and editing stages of the writing process. After revising and editing their work, students may publish their work by showing it on the SMART Board using the SMART Document Camera 280 and then reading their work aloud.
