Multiplication Arrays Page Views: 254
|
After the teacher has reviewed multiplication arrays, (a 4 by 3 rectangle would be a 4 by 3 array and equal 12) the teacher will introduce the digital camera. The teacher will model turning it on, taking a picture, and downloading it on the computer. Students will take practice pictures around the room to get used to the camera. The teacher will introduce their challenge: find as many arrays around the school, inside and out, as possible. The teacher will point out an example in the ceiling tiles. Ask what type of arrays they see. Possible answers may include a 1 by 5 array, a 2 by 4 array, etc. The teacher will escort the students around the school. Students will work with a partner finding and photographing arrays they see. Take about 20 minutes to walk and explore. Back in the classroom, students will view the photos they took with their cameras and discuss the arrays they saw. The teacher will download them to the computer. The teacher can print the pictures, hand them back to the students, have the students label the arrays in the photos, and bind in a class book. Or the teacher can have the students add text to their photos on the computer and create a power point show for the class. |
