Student will spend three days researching (using the web) and preparing their Microsoft Powerpoint Lessons. They will use designated and bookmarked websites to begin their research. They may go out to the web and "google" or use another search engine if they fill out the web evaluation form located in their workbook and in the "instructshare" folder. They will cover information regarding their topic:

Communicable Disease: to include Lyme Disease, West Nile Encephalitis, Pertussus, Measles, Tetanus, Rubella, Mumps, Meningitis, Food Poisoning and more depending on current news and local disease issues.

Non-communicable Disease: to include heart disease, cancer (including skin, lung, breast, testicular and prostate, colon, etc.) diabetes, emphysema, etc.

Groups will consist of two students each. Students will research the following information:

Name of disease
Brief history of disease
Pathogen or risk factors
Symptoms
Diagnosis
Treatment
Prognosis
Prevention(to include vaccinations, lifestyle, etc.)
Local resources (e.g. www.crdli.org)
Genomics (Heredity component )

The grading rubric will include grading sections: information (current, comprehensive and accurate), Powerpoint ( current, comprehensive, complete, ease to read and organized), and presentation ( oral presentation, comprehensive, organized, complete, etc.)
