Vocabulary: deposit, withdrawal, balance, and interest Materials to be used: Calculators, Manipulative, Lab tops with balance sheets (optional) Worksheet, Base-10 blocks,Money
Procedure of Lesson/Whole Class: „Ï Student volunteers to take out their Fact Triangles and pose multiplication /division problems for the class to complete/solve. „Ï Teacher will reintroduce and discuss vocabulary words deposit, withdrawal, balance, interest „Ï Teacher will pose a simple bank balance scenario to include vocabulary words. „Ï Teacher will discuss different ways to solve addition and subtraction problems. o Ex-(using money, base-10 blocks, computer generated balance sheet, algorithms) „Ï Teacher will model solving problem #1 from worksheet o using a grid and balance sheet on an overhead projector.( to calculate balances) o Independent Activity Students will solve problem #2 from the same work sheet using their grid with the aid of manipulative (optional). Differential Instruction-Small Group
Blue Group ¡V Will work together with paper and pencil and check their answer before submitting it with a calculator. (Pair/Share) Once correct students will enter information on computer balance sheet. Green and Yellow Group- will work with a partner taking turn being ¡§customer and salesclerk¡¨ Finding Totals and Making Change using manipulative with ¡§Goodie Bags¡¨ stuffed with cut out generated shopping list) Intensive Red group- will receive 1-6 hands on instruction on the large carpet interactive computer money game. (Facilitated by teacher)
