Science Connections

There are four major standards in Science for fifth graders in California: chemistry, solar system, weather, living systems. This lesson plan applies for each unit.

Teacher and students will begin a Concept and Question Board about a science topic. On the Concept side, students may post digital photographs, articles, comments related to what they know about the topic. On the Question side, students will post any wonderings and unanswered questions. This board will be 'living' in that it will be dynamic as teacher and students daily add on to the board. Teacher can also use the board to analyze student knowledge (what kinds of questions are students asking, what connections are the students making, etc.). In addition, this board can be used as a springboard for further research.
