First read a book on families. We use "A Family Apart" by Joan Lowery Nixon, which is the story about the orphan train.

Family Tree Project:

**You are important and the center of this family tree.

**Some of you will fill in more information on yourself and your family then others.

**Begin with the people you consider your family.

**The final portion of the project will be make a power point/slide show presentation, which we will do at school.

**From home you will need to find pictures (we can scan pictures at school, so you will have them to use), full names of people, birth dates, places where people were born, and death dates, if needed. Also you might want to include any interesting facts or newspaper articles (we can also scan these, if you want).

**This is a fun activity. Get your family involved. Older family members (grandparents, aunts, and uncles) have a lot of information to share with you. Ask them!

After completing the project, students present their final project to the class. Projects are burned to CDs so the so students and their families have copies.
