Goals:
1. The students will be able to identify geometric shapes in thier environment.
2. The students will be able to identifity properties of those shapes.
3. The students will be able to duplicate the found shapes in order to from transformations and tesselations.

The students will first get a brief overvies of geometric shpaes and principals. They will discuss both in large and small groups items that they can think of that fall into a geomtric shape category. They will be able to tell how it fits into that particluar subset.
After the students have gained and discussed the basics of geometric figures, they will then move out of the classroom in search of shapes. Using a camera or their drawing ability, the students wil keep track of their findings and record in a journal.
After all the infromation is gathered, students will then prepare to make a final project. The project will consist of a reflection of thier data. They will be able to present this information in any format. It wil have to be some sort of viusal representation with shapes identified as well as properties of those shapes. They will also take one of their shapes and create a tesselation with it by using a variety of transformations.

This activity could be include into Earth and LIfe Sciences as well as creating a writing activity.
