Students will be required to complete a final project which will develop a podcast about one of the books they read in their Afrian American Literature class. Each student will write a speech detailing research on the time period represented in a book from their African American Literature class, their opinion of that book and whether it accurately represented that time period, and produce a short reading from the book. Students will then deliver this information while being recorded. The students will use iGarage Band and iMovie to add titles, credits, and other videos or pictures to enhance their podcast. Then all of the media they have developed will be put together into a podcast which the students will then post on the class website. Students will share their final projects with each other on the final day of class.
Comments
This lesson plan requires teachers and students to have access to iLife 2006 software, and a medium in which to store all podcasts once they are completed.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This lesson could also be used for History classes, as much of the content involves cross referencing literature to actual historical events.
