Lesson Objectives: Students will be able to: - Identify the difference between a broad leaf and grass weed - Identify 25 different weeds - Know the different areas and methods to control weeds
Lesson materials: Digital Cameras, computers to create a powerpoint, smart board to illustrate broad leaf and grass weeds, visit different agronomic websites to show possible career fields for students.
Lesson modifications: The number of weeds a student has to identify can be modified for individual students.
Students will take guided notes following the educator on the smart board on weed control. Students will be given a camera to use or must provide one for themselves depending on the amount available to capture the weed in the field. The student will then focus on one weed specie to create a field diagnosis plan to show how the grower should go about eliminating it from the field. The students will utilize the internet and Ohio Department of Agriculture to research herbicide recommendations for the particular weed. The students will then give a 5 minute presentation on their research and provide a handout to the class. |
