Planned By: Jane Shields
Original Author: Jane Shields, Cicero
1) Students will read the short story "Continuidad de los Parques".
2) Students will discuss how this short story is a story within a story.
3) Students will identify the elements of magic realism in the short story.
4) Incorporating those two elements of literature, in groups of 3 students will write a short skit to put an "ending" on the short story. Students should include "props" which highlight the fact that the man sitting in the chair reading the novel could be the same man who is being threatened in the novel.
5) Students will film their skits and show them to the rest of the class.

This is a difficult story to understand because of the elements of magic realism. By doing this project, the students will understand that the story doesn't really have an ending.
