Grades 5 through 6
School: Hickory Grove Elem School, Brookville, PA
Planned By: Amy Watson
Original Author: Amy Watson, Brookville
1. Students will study the arthopod class. They will list characteristics that classify them as such. They will view various text photos of them and idenify them.

2. Students will visit the environment around them to find examples of arthopods. Instead of collecting them and mounting them, they will photograph them using digital cameras.

3. Students will download their photos back in the classroom and study them in order to correctly identify them.

4. Students will either choose to print their findings and present in hardcopy form or place their photos in a Photostory slideshow to present via the digital whiteboard.

5. By studying their own environment and presenting to the class, the students will get to know the arthopods in their own backyard.
Comments
Our school is a small rural school. The students have enjoyed lessons like this even with 1 classroom camera and 1 computer. A class set would be awesome!!
