To introduce the lesson show students various products and the different advertisements that go with them. Ask students to brainstorm a list of their favorite commercials and ask what makes these commercials so memorable. Now do the same with commercials they do not like and what makes them so memorable.

(In order to do this lesson you will need the help of your administration and various teachers/aides throughout the school).

Next, put students into groups. Explain to students that each group will create a trail mix campaign and trail mix to sell. Each group will be given a budget (up to the teacher) and it is the responsibility of each group to keep track of the budget (we used excel) and not run out of money!

Groups will need to meet with the principal and rent space in the school for manufactoring their trail mix, buy their supplies (nuts, raisins, m & m's, etc.) from the teachers (always fun to have them barter).

Then students need to create a marketing campaign (we used power point) and present their campaign to the class. Also, students can make flyers, packaging and try to sell their trail mix to younger classes.
Comments
The more groups you have the better. We took multiple classes and mixed the kids together so they worked with students who were not in the same class as them but the same grade.
