What is needed before this lesson?
• Students should have already been introduced to different plane and solid figures
• Teacher made Photo Story showcasing shapes in everyday life

• Digital Cameras (1 for each group)
• Computers

Lesson
1

Anticipatory Set
• Teacher will ask students what shapes they see around the room and in their everyday lives.
• Teacher will show the video of shapes in everyday life
Guided Practice
• Teacher will first show students how to use the cameras,
o Wait to see the picture in the view window and shoot.
o Introduce the advantage of taking a ‘portrait’ or ‘landscape’ picture
o When should you stand up close and when should you stand at a distance
• Students will work in groups; each student in the group will have a different job. Students will switch jobs every 10 minutes.
o Shape finder
o Photographer
o Note Taker
o Artist
Independent Practice
• Students will all explore the playground (given area) to look for shapes.
• Student groups will then take turns with the cameras, rotating jobs
o Shape Finder will be in the picture pointing out the shape
o Photographer will take the picture
o Note Taker will give a written description of their picture
o Artist will draw a picture of what they see
Closure
• Students will orally share different shapes that they found

Lesson 2
(Teacher will work with 1 student from each group at a time while the other students complete an online shape activity)

Anticipatory Set
• Teacher will remind students of the previous lesson and ask students to share the favorite shapes that they found.
Guided Practice
• Students from each group will draw sticks to get their number 1-4.
• Student 1 – Download pictures from camera
• Teacher will show students how to connect the USB cables to the cameras and download the pictures, placing the pictures into a folder for their group.
• Student 2 – Import pictures into Photo Story and label pictures
• Teacher will show students how to open Photo Story, how to import pictures (locating the folder created for the group).
• Teacher will show students how to add labels to the pictures. Students will name the shape in each picture. Students will choose the font and the best placement of the text.
• Student 3 – Customize motion
• Teacher will show students how to direct the motion of each picture to best showcase the shape.
• Student 4 – Narrator
• Student will narrate each picture to describe the shape shown using vocabulary such as plane, solid, sides, faces, edges, and corners.
• Teacher will show students how to produce and save the movie.
Independent Practice
• Students will explore shapes online using Patch Tool, Geometric Solids, and/or Tangram Game
Closure
• Groups will share movies with the class
