II. Speeches: “A Principle I Want to Live My Life By and Why” or “My Mission Statement and What It Means to ME.”
A. Conduct Speeches
Note to the Teacher
Again, it is at this point that you are encouraging the class to look at each other and offer specific praise to those they felt gave good presentations. They should say “you” rather than “he” or she.” After each person finishes his/her affirmation, the class should again applaud the person being acknowledged. Don’t forget to add your own encouragements, as well.
Continue to point out to the class things they should be working on like: movement, eye contact, enunciation, slowing down, using their hands, tone of voice, etc.
B. Journal Question/Small Group Discussion
What do you think you did well in your speech? What do you think you could have improved upon?

Small Group Discussion
In your groups, share what you wrote in your journals, sharing at least one thing you think you could have done better. Use the Oral Evaluation Forms to give feedback to each other.
C. Discussion
How did you feel getting that kind of feedback from others in your group? (Discussion)
Note to the Teacher
If any time remains, have the class write a one-paragraph summary of their thoughts about today’s speeches.
