1.) As a class, brainstorm types of natural disasters. Utilize kidspiration (graphic organizer) to categorize the types.

2.) Once list has been developed, teacher writes each disaster on 3X5 cards (making enough cards so that there are groups of 2-3 students). Place cards around room, and allow students to choose which group they would like to join.

3.) Teacher will present the essential questions:

A.) Define the natural disaster.
B.) What USA region(s) does the natural disaster occur in?
C.) What causes the natural disaster to occur?
D.) What can people do to prepare for this disaster?

4.) Students will work collaboratively to research and compile the information into a brochure created on PRINTSHOP (or any publishing software).

This is tool that can be utilized school wide (K-8) to allow students to publish a variety of projects in multiple subject areas.
