Subject(s): Geometry, Math
Grades 4 through 5
School: Rockford Elementary, Dobson, NC
Planned By: Angela Goins

To begin the lesson I teach the students the different shapes and lines. We use a smart notebook lesson where the students can munipulate the lines and shapes. They trace the shapes and lines and move their arms to a right angle for perpendicular and straight/side by side for parallel. Then the students use a digital camera or flip camera and explore the school campus looking for the different shapes and lines. As they find the different shapes and lines, the students use the camera to take a picture for a photostory on Microsoft, or the flip camera to act like a news reporter to describe the shape. Then I take all of the students works to make one movie that can be used for review for the test, a grade, and review for the end of grade test at the end of the year.
