iTouches can be utilized for individual students, differentiating needs and applying readily available applications that are specific to a student’s skill and needs. The specific application a student is using is individualized to their level without a public view of what their level is. This helps prevent any embarrassment or a feeling of not being as smart as the next student.

iTouch can also be used when facilitating small group sessions, like Guided Reading. Utilizing a variety of applications, we can differentiate and target specific skills. The teacher demonstrates an application or skill on the iPad and the students can use the iTouch to practice.

The iTouch can also be utilized to work on fluency and comprehension through Podcasts. The iTouch can be used to make Podcasts of the student reading a book, which they can listen to later as they follow along. When the students can hear themselves read, they become more engaged, motivated and invested in their own learning. Students could get instant feedback.

For students with fine motor concerns, the iTouch and iPad is a great platform for them to practice handwriting. There is less resistance than traditional paper and pencil tasks and it provides immediate feedback.

The iTouch is highly reinforcing and motivating for students of the 21st century. It is a tool that encompasses a multitude of applications that can be applied across several areas, such as reading, phonemic awareness, handwriting and vocabulary. It allows students to work interactively. It is more exciting to students and it speaks to them using technology they are familiar with.
