• Students will create a 30 second-1 minute Public Service Announcement designed to dissuade students from using tobacco products.
Skill Emphasis:
Advocacy, Decision Making, Technology Integration
Directions: Working with your partner, create a project that follows these guidelines.
Overview:
Your company, Sachem Teens for Tobacco Free Schools, has been hired by the school board of the local middle school to design Public Service Announcements that will strengthen the school's anti-tobacco curriculum.
Planning the Project
Your group is to create a PSA that will convince middle school students not to use tobacco. Your PSA must convey a message that middle school students would find memorable and convincing. The project should be 30 seconds to 1 minute in length.
To help you plan your project, consider the following questions:
•How much time will your PSA be concentrating on diseases that are caused by smoking or chewing tobacco?
•What other important or interesting facts (for a young teenager) could your project contain?
•How will you make it thought-provoking and interesting to watch?
Performing Your Project

Your project will be recorded with a Flip digital recorder. When you are ready to videotape it, become familiar with the functions of your video recorder and "walk through" the presentation several times to determine the best angles to shoot from.
Note: The full written script of your song/music video or PSA must also be turned in.
** The Public Service Announcements will be viewed in the main lobby of the school by all students, community and staff.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
