My students are very interested in science and reading. In order to incorporate both subjects, I have created a science station which is used during reading groups. We have recently started to look at plants and have started recording our observations about them. The flip videos will be viewed on the smartboard during stations.

Our flip video cameras would help us tremendously while being used in our science reading station. The videos will be created by my enrichment groups of students in order to teach the other students about their scientific experiences. Lessons created by the group will be:

1. Growing Garden- A group of students will plant thier seeds into pots on video. Each day they will take a 1 second video of the plant. After 3 weeks the students will generate a list of questions to ask their classmates about the plants. (which plant grew faster, do they have fruit on them, do they have flowers?) The 1 second videos will be shown as a time elapse video and the questions will be read by the students, allowing their classmates time to answer on paper. After answering the questions on the video, the students on video will go over the answers, explaining each one.

2. Read With Me- One group of students will video themselves reading the science reader. They will read the book to the camera, and ask thinking questions at the end of the text. This will allow the students who are unable to read a chance to be exposed to the science text. The text will also be available to the students who are viewing the video to explore during the reading.

The students will also be allowed to video each other reading and then view themselves which will help to promote fluency.
