Famous Americans

In the month of February 2nd Graders are assigned a famous American to research. We study biographies and learn how to make Glogs from www.eduglogster.com. Our Librairian presents a lesson on bigraphies and we head to the computer lab to explore Glogster. Parents are then sent information about how Glogster works and our login information. We discuss researching through the internet and through books. Students then check out books about their American. They also participate in down loading video clips, sound bytes, and photos of their famous American. Students are encouraged to use Glogster and are given time in class to do so. The students are also able to access Glogster at home and I am then able to monitor their work, make comments, and print out their Glog. Students are also able to create posters for their projects. The students report on their famous Americans with their posters/interactive glogs and we record with our flip cameras. The famous American videos are then played on our morning announcements via our smartboards. All grade levels are able to view our 2nd grader's hard work. We also share our famous American videos with our Web Pals through Skype. It is a wonderful way to connect with students about famous Americans in other schools, states, and countries. Our webpals are in Ohio...we are in North Carolina.
