I teach 27 fifth grade students who were working on a school wide recycling program. My class worked on researching, had guests from the community visit, and wrote out our research on ways we can improve our recycling program and to incorporate new ideas. After the class brainstormed ideas the class wrote power point presentation, interview questions, and made a commercial to teach the school and community about recycling. We also made recycled flower pots out of newspapers and delivered them to a local nursing home. The flip video camera was used to document our progress, film our commercial, and video tape our interviews with the principal and teachers about our recycling program. My class also began recycling once a week and graphed our growth through the year. We began recycling cell phones, ink cartridges, juice boxes, and paper. The growth has been wonderful and our recycling has just begun.
Follow-Up
We are going to expand our recycling program next year to incorporate more ideas and more community involvment.
