PSA Assignment

Public service announcements (PSAs) educate citizens about issues that are difficult to deal with: homelessness, cancer, child abuse, violations of human rights, and world hunger. PSAs give citizens information about these issues so that they can think about them and then take positive action. Your group will conceive, plan, and produce your own PSAs in the form of compelling and brief movie. Each PSA will deliver a strong message on a social topic of interest. The goal of this assignment is to demonstrate the qualities of a leader by promoting a cause in the form of a Public Service Announcement (PSA). The PSA must be over one minute long but not longer than two minutes long. Your topic MUST be preapproved.
Guidelines for groups:
• Your PSA needs to be between 30 seconds and 90 seconds
• Your production group can be only one member, but no more than 2.
• You must choose a responsible member for the team. This person will be responsible for any equipment checked out.
• Interesting video is essential, as are voice-over, transitions, title screens, etc.
• Think of PSA's that you are familiar with, if you don’t know any Google it or look on YouTube, there are also samples on my web site and YouTube channel.
• For concepts for your PSA, you have a lot of latitude. The only requirement on topic is that you must do your PSA on an actual non profit or a real social issue. See me for approval it’s a first come first serve basis on topics.
• Guidelines for PSA:
• Must be over 30 seconds but no longer than 90 seconds.
• Must contain the group's logo, phone number, and URL.
• Must have at least one interview or testimonial footage.
• Must have background music and can have voice over, if needed.
• Should be interesting, creative and able to hold the viewers attention for the length of the PSA.
• Must be exported and burned to DVD.
This project can be done with iMovie on Mac or MovieMaker on Windows.
