School: Challenge to Excellence, Parker, CO
Planned By: Kristen Parsons
Original Author: Kristen Parsons, Parker
During this lesson, students have the opportunity to learn about basic persuasive techniques used when creating a commercial. We will discuss the techniques and then students will analyze data about advertising by observing various commercials. They will share examples of persuasive techniques used in advertising that they have found in paper advertisements as well as television advertisements.
Then while working in groups, students will have the opportunity to create their own products that they have invented. Inventions should be something that will help the environment. Students will then use one persuasive technique in creating their group commercials. Students perform their commercials while one member of the group videos the commercial using a flip camera. After students have revised commercials, they will present commercial to another group for peer evaluation. Each group will give positive feedback and then edit if needed. Groups will share their commercials and audience members will try to guess which persuasive technique they used. Commercials will be posted on student websites to be shared with parents.
