School: Lockhart Junior High School, Lockhart, TX
Planned By: Stacy Lomax-Wendel
Original Author: Stacy Lomax-Wendel, Lockhart
Students will be expected to select a duet scene they will produce and film from beginning to end. They will create elements of scenery, properties, lighting, sound, costumes, and make up. The director will act as a problem solver, interpreter of the script as well as direct the dramatization. After the scene has been memorized and the characters clearly established through character analysis they will begin rehearsals. The director will use the flip camera to video tape beginning reheasals to show the actors what works and what does not. The director will record 3 performances; the first rehearsal, another one about mid way through and then the final performance. Through reheasals, review, and reflection the final duet will be polished and well established. Due to the use of the flip camera the students will not be limited to having their final performance in the classroom. We can branch out into other areas such as the library, gym, court yard or lobby. Then the group will edit the three performances to be shown to the class in the classroom setting for a grade. I will be looking for improvment between each performance as well as teamwork, problem solving, creativity and acting techniques used. I have found that students do better when their work is done and seen in steps. Then it becomes a process that teaches good rehearsal skills and accountability.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Other classes that can benefit would be Speech or LA.
