Students will apply various elements of writing to modify and create their own versions of The Three Little Pigs in small groups of four. The goal is to infuse technology, language arts, and visual arts into a standard based writing project that compliments our Reading Sharing Stories unit.
Using voicethread.com students will create their own story boards and record their dialogue of their own version of the story.
Students could work at home to revise and edit their products using a link to VoiceThread that the teacher post online at the Resources page.
I will use Flip Video Cameras to record their creations and post their products on a specific website so others could enjoy. They will also view each others work and provide positive feedback and learn from their own creations.
Since this lesson is geared toward second grade, these students would not and could not create their own sites. But I will post their products for others to view. We will also post the project’s rubrics so they and their parents can view and understand the grades they receive.

My lesson could change and modify to meet children of different needs such as:

1) English Learners (ELs)-Creating a visual storyboard of the beginning, the middle, and the ending of their story will help these learners fully express their creativity and assist in confidence building. The thinking maps or other visual aids such as a story board will provide them a way to plan and show their thinking. Recording their voices and their stories with the video camera will give motivation and teach character development and dialogue in a concrete way. Working with partners, students will think-pair-share throughout the entire process. In the way they increase their language development.

2) Standard English Learners (SELs)-In the process of doing the project the Standard English Learners will review and practice the writing components in a more interesting way. Students will be encouraged to create elaborated sentences and paragraphs.

3) Gifted and Talented (GATE)-They will have opportunities to use critical thinking by manipulating the story’s characters and plot and work collaboratively with others in creating an open-ended product.

4) Special Education (SPED)-Students may be provided with a teacher created flow map or a visual aid to assist them in the learning process. Visual aids will be shared with their resource teacher to assist students in a small group setting.

Comments
At the beginning of the project I will teach students the rules of collaboration. I will model positive feedback and provide rewards for students who are on tasks.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Students will be encouraged to use the “I message” in the Health program to provide their feedback and feelings in a more constructive say. I will teach them rules for being a polite audience while viewing and listening to story orally and digitally.
Follow-Up
Students will change the ending of their stories and create a diorama that reflects the changes. This diorama will be display in the "Book Float" parade to publish their products.
