Students began researching what stop motion animation is all about. They discovered factors that make a stop motion video interesting and engaging as well as understanding the importance of giving the video some kind of direction. After the students spent time researching, they began coming up with ideas in pairs. As soon as they figured out a topic to go with, the students wrote out a very detailed storyboard including the image they were taking as well as the sound effects and transitions they were going to use to make the story flow well. Students then began setting up their staging area with lighting and props. We took anywhere from 200-500 photos and kept every shot, as they could come in handy later as we began our editing on the computer. We used iPhoto and iMovie to do our editing and creating of the animations. Two weeks were spent editing/enhancing our videos as the students began to see all their hard work come to life! This assignment was such an amazing experience as the students got a feel of how stop motion animation really works.
