Learning Objective After looking at different artists portraits, students will create a self portrait collage using Adobe Photo Elements.

Motivation Students will look at different artists self portraits. Students will look at an example of the project.

Behavioral Objectives
Knowledge Students will learn :

Collage An artistic composition of materials and objects pasted over a surface, often with unifying lines and color.

Skills Students will learn how take their picture using a digital camera and load it onto the computer into I photo. They will learn how to copy and paste their picture into Adobe Photo Elements. They will outline it using the pencil tool. They will use the magic wand to select the outline of their face and they will manipulate layers to create digital collage.

Questions What is a self portrait?
Why would an artist create a self portrait?
Are all portraits realistic? Why or Why not?

Procedure class will begin by looking at a variety of artists portraits. We will discuss why an artist would paint a self portrait. We will discuss how portraits have changed over time. Students will look at an example of the project. Students will watch a demonstration on how to take a portrait using a digital camera and how to copy and paste their picture and paste it into Photo Elements. The will use the pencil tool to outline their face and the magic wand to select their outline and paste it into Photo Elements.

In the next class they will watch a demonstration on how to copy and paste pictures about themselves from pictures that they have taken with a digital camera as well as images that they have gathered off of the internet . They will copy and place them into their portrait outline to create a portrait collage. They will use the move tool to resize some of their images. When students are finished creating their digital collage , they will flatten their image and use the paint bucket tool to fill in their background. At the end of the project we will look at and evaluate their work.

Class 1 introduction to portraits and collage
Class 2 Taking digital photographs and importing them into Adobe photo Elements.
Class 3 outlining students portraits and collecting digital images about students interests
Class 4 Putting together a digital collage by using layers
Class 5 Continuing work
Class 6 reflection and evaluation of work.

HW write an auto biography.
