*Project/ Lessons are to be taught over the course of multiple weeks.*
Day 1
Introduction: Nonfiction Text/ Animals
Students will have the opportunity to choose an animal. Be sure to pick an animal yourself to model how to research and record your findings.

Mini Lesson: Create a KWL chart with your model animal. In this example, we will use a flamingo. Brainstorm together everything you KNOW about flamingos. Then, discuss and record what you WANT to know about flamingos. This will all you will be doing today.

Independent Work: students will work on filling in the K and W of their chart. Float around the room while students work to support as needed.

Differentiation: Have a select variety of animals to choose from. Have students pick their top 3 animals and place the students into a group. This will allow you to group higher-level students with lower-level students.

*Teacher will continue modeling how to find information on the example animal (e.g., habitat, babies, predator/ prey, food, etc.). Students will continue to follow the mode each day until they have collected enough information to present.*
Materials: Digital Voice Recorders, Electronics, Camera/Video Accessories
