Why I need this:
Due to budget cuts and no excess money in New Mexico and in our district for educational technology, a classroom set of Chromebooks would be such a gift to my students who have minimal access to computers on a regular basis. Chromebooks in the classroom will benefit my students in so many ways. Not only will my students be more engaged, but students will gain the ability to access resources in a manner suited to their learning style. In addition, a study by Stanford University shows that computers in classrooms help students “develop the higher-order skills of critical thinking, analysis, and scientific inquiry through active engagement participation, frequent interaction, and connection to real-world contexts.” I’m looking forward to watching my student’s typing skills improve, which will in turn affect their ability to type their thoughts as fast as they can think them. Often, their lack of exposure to computers affects many areas of learning and even high stake test scores, so to see this turn around in my classroom excites me!
