Lesson/ Topic: Writing

Materials: iPad mini

Big Idea: Students will create a story using the Story Kit app. Once their story is written, they will be able to draw pictures to go along with their story. They will be able to record their voices while reading the story. They will share their stories using our Apple TV.

Objective: Students will create an electronic storybook using the Story Kit app for the iPad mini.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.2a Introduce a topic and group related information together; include illustrations when useful to aiding comprehension.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.2b Develop the topic with facts, definitions, and details.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.2c Use linking words and phrases (e.g., also, another, and, more, but) to connect ideas within categories of information.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.2d Provide a concluding statement or section.

Open: Review how to handle an iPad carefully. Explain in detail how to create an electronic story using the Story Kit app. Students will then be placed in groups of two. They will work together to create an electronic story using the Story Kit app.

Development: Students will revisit the Step Up to Writing process while creating their stories. Once their stories are written, they will be able to add their illustrations to their electronic story. They will then be able to record their own voices while reading their story.

Assessment: Each group will be able to share their story using our classroom Apple TV. This is a fun way for the kids to see what their classmates created.
