School: Meigs North Elementary School, Decatur, TN
Planned By: Ashley Kranz
Original Author: Ashley Kranz, Decatur
To begin the lesson students will hear a cell rap that teaches them the different parts of a basic plant and animal cell.
Then students will be given a coloring sheet for a plant and animal cell. Once they are colored the students will use the quiver educational app to bring their own colored cell to life and be able to see it in 3D. The app also offers quizzes and shows just how a real cell looks and where the parts are located. The students will then watch a short brain pop video on the active board. Next, the students will then take a short quiz on kahootit.com (this requires technology as well) to review the standard.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
The students will have to write a paper at the end of the unit comparing and contrasting plant and animal cells. They will be required to follow guidelines learned in ELA classes and use proper grammar conventions.
Follow-Up
The students will create and design their own cells with materials brought in, donated, and teacher bought.
