Gateway Elementary School
Class Information:
Room Number: 102
Students per Class: 20
Class Description:
Our pre-K classroom is a center based classroom that includes art, dramatic play, writing, reading, and a puppet show, with an emphasis on math, science and technology. We have an abundance of manipulatives for the children to explore. The children take care of our frogs and fish. The science center turns into a plant nursery for starting the three thousand plants that the school uses for Mother’s Day and to plant around our twenty acre campus. We have three computers for the children to use in the classroom. I say “we” because I have a very energetic and caring aid that tries to keep me on track.
Position:
teacher
Needs:
Our school is twelve years old and most of the equipment is original to the building. Twelve years in technology time makes a lot of our equipment obsolete or non compatible. The digital camera I use is great because it will take up to a minute of video with sound but when I try to download the pictures into the computer I lose some of what I shot because computer/camera incompatibility makes the disk unusable. I use still shots and video in a lot of what we do, especially in documenting my students work and giving the students a voice about the work they do. I need good still and/or video cameras that are dependable and rugged because we spend a lot of time in our courtyard (outdoor classroom). As chairperson of the courtyard committee, I could use two camera labs to assist classrooms in documenting what they find interesting in the courtyard. All of our laptop computers in school (we have one for each grade level) are too old to access our newly installed wireless system, therefore a laptop would be useful to use in the courtyard. The students would especially find it helpful to be able to look online for a plant while in the courtyard to find out if it is a weed or a keeper.
