Add Me as a Friend!
Arnaudville Elementary School
Hometown:
Opelousas, LA
Class Information:
Room Number: 99
Students per Class: 24
Class Description:
My class is filled with loving, caring boys and girls. They are eager to learn, but are easily distracted on days when "pencil and paper" activities dominate the learning process.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
PolyVision Walk-and-Talk™ Interactive Whiteboard (it's very, very, VERY user friendly) or comparable product ; Photo Printer; Digital camera
My Philosophy:
I am but one cog in the wheel of life. However, if one cog fails to do its job, the machine will not work. I feel that my role is to provide nourishment for students' minds and spirits.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I'm a big-hearted Cajun girl who chose to come home after my children were self-sufficient college graduates. I wanted to return to K-8 teaching, so here I am. I'm in 2nd grade now, but see myself teaching middle school social studies again one day. I recently remarried after 22+ years as a single mom.
College and Degrees:
Louisiana State University - BS Education; Universityof Texas @ Arlington - Master of Professional Accounting; University of Arizona - Ph.D. (Accounting / Finance)
Activities:
I'm currently teaching 2nd grade - all subjects. We have 1 computer w/ printer and TV monitor, and 5 palm pilots in our classroom. I also have a personal laptop, VCR player, DVD player, and digital camera for classroom use. I also teach 8th grade remediation (math and language arts) after school for students at risk. Finally I teach one managerial accounting night class (at an area university) in spring or summer......just to stay in touch. :-)
Favorite Books:
"The Witch of Blackbird Pond" (a childhood favorite that I still read every few years); "Chicken Every Sunday" (It's old, but extremely entertaining. It was also an old Broadway play and movie); "Ernie Pyle's War" (It's an interesting story about a journalist who told stories about the "regular" people in this world)
Favorite Quotes:
(personal) "Happiness is a butterfly which when pursued is just beyond your grasp, but if you sit down quietly may light upon you" (Nathaniel Hawthorne); (professional) "If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door" (Milton Berle)
Interests:
Avid reader (especially history); photography; knit/crochet/sew;playing on computer; puzzles of all sorts, organic gardening.
Employment History:
1) Middle School Teacher (3 years), 2) CPA / Univ. Professor / Consultant (25 years.), 3) K-8 Teacher (in 5th year)
Why Do I Teach?:
I enjoy the look on a face and sound of a voice when a student "gets it"....especiallysomething originally perceived as too difficult to learn.
