San Lorenzo Elem School
Hometown:
Silver City, NM
Class Information:
Room Number: 102
Students per Class: 15
Class Description:
San Lorenzo Elementary School is located in the Mimbres Valley in southern New Mexico. The students live in a rural area and are isolated from each other. Our district incorporates about 50 sq. miles. Most activities students are involved in must take place at school because of the distances to be traveled to participate in extracurricular activities. Our curriculum includes art, music, p. e., and band along with the core subjects of math, science, language arts and social studies. The class consists of 9 boys and 6 girls. We live in an area that is rich in history and have a partnership with the Grant County Archaeological Society. Behind our school we have a nature garden with a beautiful pond, and plan to build a "mock" dig this academic year.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
Our students are lacking in a lot of outside experiences that provide background for learning because of location and socio-economic status.
My Philosophy:
I believe that all students can learn and want to learn if provided the motivation and opportunity. Students should be treated as intelligent, thinking beings in order to promote their love of learning.

Why Do I Teach?:
Teaching is not merely a job for me, it is a life passion. I love being able to work with children, especially those with special needs, and see them achieve success where they have struggled in the past. Every day is a new challenge in so many ways, I feel that I have grown tremendously myself because of the children I work with. They help me understand the world we live in and the challenges our young people have to overcome and hopefully, I give them tools to succeed as happy, contributing members of that world.
