Why I need this:
We are a Title 1 school in a rural area of North Carolina. The ESL class has 72 Hispanic students that are served each week and there are no computers in that classroom for students to use. They do use Chromebooks in the regular education classroom, but there is such a rich variety of resources that can be used to teach English to speakers of other languages and that potential is untapped in the ESL classroom, due to a shortage of funding for computers. The students range from kindergarten to 5th grade and all come from homes where the language spoken is Spanish. Many have recently immigrated into the country and a few have been separated from family members at the border. They also vary in their language level. Some are good conversational speakers while others do not know any English. It is a large spectrum of language needs that could be better met with some technology in the classroom. |
