Class Description:
2 sections of Creative Writing Students interested in developing different ways of creating a literary magazine rather than the traditional paper compliation.
Position:
English Teacher
Needs:
Ways to help students review their own writing and learn critical editing skills as a group. Ways to help students develop Interactive Publication skills for their literary magazine, ways to help students in an isolated state interact with their peer writers in other states.
My Philosophy:
I am a wholistic educator who takes students at whatever level they may be and trys to help them develop their writing skills as far as they would like to go. I strongly believe in the National Writing Project approach to teaching students writing and building their self confidence as young writers by interacting with their peers and sharing what they have written. My goal is to help young writers explore their own lives and experiences through developing creative skills/thinking through creative writing. All too often students are so focused on meeting a standard or benchmark or district learning objectives they often miss out on developing creativity through the arts, writing, drama etc.

Listing my favorite books would be really difficult as there are so many; however, I really enjoy historical fiction, christian fiction, mysteries, and authors such as Tony Hillerman, Dee Hendersen, Woodsmall, Beverly Lewis, Gilbert Morris, Louisa May Alcott, Jan Karon.
Interests:
Hosting exchange students from other countries.
Employment History:
5 years teaching on 2 different Native American Reservations in the southwest, and 21 years in the Dept of Education in Hawaii. I've taught English, Social Studies, and Career Education.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I truly enjoy interacting with young people, encouraging them to follow their dreams, and watching them bloom in adults sure of what they want in this world and reaching to obtain their goals.
