My students are primarily working class, ethnically Hispanic. In general, they are well behaved, but academically can lag behind. We are also on the wrong side of the "digital divide", in that more than half of the students do not have regular access to technology at home.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
We need to be able to put technology into the hands of students on a regular basis, in order for them to be ready for the demands of life in the 21st century.
My Philosophy:
I believe that learning comes from active participation. Students that use technology are not only more motivated, but learn more quickly, and with deeper understanding.
Technology allows the student to learn at their own pace. A computer, for example, can provide immediate feedback on work accomplished.

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I love preparing our young people for the world they will eventually contribute to. One of the great joys I have is to be visited by my former students, who share with me what they are doing with their lives. The best stories are those that have made a significant turnaround. We like to think we can predict success or failure, but it's really a kick to see a student "get it", and make something of themselves.
