Why Do I Teach?:
My request for funding is to support the Girls Coding Club and First Lego League robotics programs that I have started at school. I collaborate with teachers from other departments so that the math inherent in coding is highlighted in their classrooms and through the after school program. I bring in guest speakers and we take field trips to places like Girls Only STEM Day at the Naval Academy (http://www.usna.edu/STEM/news/2013-10-19-girls%20day.php)in Annapolis, MD and the Young Innovators Fair (http://younginnovatorsfair.com/)at the convention center in Philadelphia, PA. My goal is to engage students in 6th grade and create opportunities such that they have solid coding skills by the time they leave us in 8th grade. I want students to enter high school with the technology skills of the 21st Century!
