Keewahdin Elementary School
Hometown:
Port Huron, Michigan
Class Information:
Room Number: Media Center
Students per Class: 405
Class Description:
I have Kindergarten students for 45 minutes every other week and 1st through 5th grades 45 minutes each week. The advantage of having students for 6 years is that I can teach them the skills I need them to learn to be successful next year in this school year and we continue to build on those skills. I also can enhance their classroom curriculum in ways their regular ed. teacher can not.
Position:
Elem Tech Specialist
Needs:
Throughout their elementary years we do electronic portfolios that require us to use many photos. Right now, we are using photos that I take or I can locate from teachers or parents. If we had a mobile camera lab, the classroom teachers would be able to check out the cameras, have the students take the photos they would like to write about, I could download the photos to our server, they could insert them into their project and write about them. It would provide them with a much needed source of photos relevant to them which would also eliminate a lot of photo duplication between the projects.
My Philosophy:
We have five specials in our school. Every child can not draw, sing, do athletics or be motivated by Health & Safety, but every child can be successful in the Computer Lab. There are varying degrees of the student projects--but everyone can complete the assignment to the best of their ability. Helping them reach success is what motivates them to continue to learn.
Personal Information:
College and Degrees:
I have an undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and two Master's degrees from Wayne State University--one in Elementary Education w/Reading Endorsement and one in Special Education-LearningDisabilities.
Activities:
I like to read, plan travel on the internet
Employment History:
I have been teaching in the Port Huron Area School District in Michigan for 32 years. I have spent most of my time in lower elementary until eight years ago when our district implemented the Elementary Technology program.
