Class Description:
I am a first grade teacher in a new charter school. Our school was developed for refugees from countries currently in civil wars such as Somalia and Myanmar. All of our students qualify for free lunch, and all of my students are second language learners. Our school is a charter school, which means we are a tuition-free public school offering a unique educational program. Our teachers and staff are sensitive to all students in regards to their religion, culture, and troubled pasts. With that in mind, we also provide an intensive reading and math program so these children who barely speak English when they first arrive at our school will no longer "slip through the cracks" of the public education system.
