Biology 2 is a interdisciplinare2nd year biology course, we cover 5 topics in detail including Ecology/EnvironmentalScience, Plant Physiology/Botany,Biotechnology/HumanGenetics, Animal Behavior, and the Human Body. Each unit is anchored with a project that extends into the community, including an independent reasearch project.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
Equipment and supplies for each of our projects to replace our damaged goods that have been around since the school was opened. For Ecology/EnvironmentalScience we need new waders, nets, buckets and chemical testing kits for our Clinton River habitat restoration projects, for Plant Physiology/Botany,weneed new growth lights and consumable supplies like seeds, soils, microscope slides an growth media, for Biotechnology/HumanGenetics we would like to add new technologies, like genetic engineering labs and electrophoresis equipment to the classroom, for Animal Behavior we would like resources to work with animals on farms and with the leader dogs of the blind on their projects with animal behavior, and for the Human Body we could use new physiology equipment and microscope slides of human tissues as well as av materials, models and diagrams illustrating processes in the body. Specimens for study are also needed.
My Philosophy:
We know all students can learn if they are in the right environment. My goal is to keep students involved with their learning as much as possible, by working with the community organizations we have around us and volunteers from other organizations on real world problems, students become responsible for their own learning, and make a difference in the world as a result of this learning.
