Arcadia Elementary School
Class Information:
Room Number: 7
Students per Class: 19
Class Description:
I have a classroom of 10 girls and 9 boys. I have 2 hearing impaired students and 1 bilingual student. I have a classroom full of eager learners, who love to share ALL of their thoughts and ideas about life and school. :)
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
My students have a lot of energy and some come from difficult situations, such as foster homes and low income homes. I want them to be able to have all of the opportunities that all students have, regardless of socio-economic status. I have hearing impaired students and students with special needs who need extra interventions and modes to meet their needs, especially through the use of technology.
My Philosophy:
I feel that young children respond best when they feel respected, nurtured and loved. I try to create a classroom environment where all students are accepted regardless of race, nationality, ability or any other difference.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I have been teaching Kindergarten for 11 years at the same school. I enjoy every moment and am not only teaching my students, but are constantly learning from them. Every year brings in a fresh, new bunch of learners who have varying styles of learning and ways of interacting.
College and Degrees:
I have my Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education and I have just completed my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
Activities:
I am the mentor coordinator for our district and tutor students both in my school and out of school. I am currently tutoring an autistic 18 year old whom I have been working with since he was 3 years old.
Favorite Books:
The Very Hungry Caterpillar & Love You Forever are two of my most favorite children's books to read with the students!
Favorite Quotes:
The Serenity Prayer...."God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference!"
Interests:
I have a strong interest in incorporating more technology into my classroom so that all my students with diverse needs,(i.e. hearing impaired, bilingual, special needs) can achieve their utmost.
Employment History:
Before teaching Kindergarten, I was a child development specialist in an Early Intervention Setting. I also worked in an inclusive preschool with both special needs and average students. I was also a nanny for 2 years while in Junior College.
