Personal Information:
About Me:
I was born and raised in Annapolis, MD. I have worked in health care and education since 1990. From 1990-1994 at North Arundel Hospital in Glen Burnie, MD. In 1994, I started working for a group of doctors at Anne Arundel Urology. During those 7 years in Maryland, I also provided companionship and social interaction for mentally handicapped people at Alternative Living, Inc. In 1997, I started my life long dream of becoming an educator. I also joined a team of childcare providers at The Little Country School House as a teacher's assistant and was eventually promoted to director. At the same time I pursued a higher education at Marymount University. It was at Marymount that I started creating websites for the Student Commuter Advisory Board. In my final days of undergraduate studies at Marymount I found that information systems can go hand in hand in meeting my goal of creating great educational opportunities for all children. My decision to become an educator has evolved over the years. I originally wanted to work with adolescents with mental disabilities or in the area of substance abuse. This evolution came from my involvement with Alternative Living, my work with my local church teaching CCD and with my parental duties of aiding my son in his education. I want to be instrumental in educating children and igniting their enthusiasm for learning. Childrenhave a view of life that is honest and unvarnished, which is what enables them to reach beyond any barriers that may exist and that makes them unique. Working with them is not only a joy but also a challenge—the challenge is to engage them in the joy of seeking knowledge. I also hope that I help students to value themselves as complete human beings, not just for their achieving high grades. In short, I want to open up students to the larger, physical world outside and the even greater world within. My philosophy (condensed): High moral and ethical values are a central role in my fundamental beliefs and therefore are encouraged and promoted through my verbal and nonverbal communication. Teaching should encompass the support and enhancement of the child’s mental, emotional and physical abilities.
College and Degrees:
I have previously graduated with my MEd in 2002 and in 2001, Magna Cum Laude, from Marymount University.
Activities:
I enjoy many other extracurricular activities. I am a certified scuba rescue diver, a member of my school's PTO, and enjoy integrating multimedia technology into the educational process. I also love to do arts and crafts with various groups of children; including my goddaughter’s playgroup.
