The Lohn High school has a total of 30 students in grades 9-12. I have eleven freshmen, five sophomores, eight juniors and five seniors.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
I would like to have computers or laptops dedicated to the English classroom. As of now, we have 9 laptops (usually 8 since one will always have issues) that are shared between all the major subjects.
My Philosophy:
I teach each student is if they intended to attend college after graduation. I saw too many new college freshmen with out basic writing skills while tutoring. I wish my students to be able to enter freshmen English with all the tools to complete classes with high grades. In order to do this, basic computer skills is a must.
Personal Information:
About Me:
After a little over 20 years in the military, I retired without a clue as to what I wanted to be when I grew up. I decided college, and since I had the intestinal fortitude (guts) to stick with the rigors of college, I decided teaching would be my best route.
College and Degrees:
Two useless associates from The Community College of the Air Force and a teaching degree from McMurry University
Activities:
I drive over an hour each way to get to school, so most of my activities are school related - attending sporting events and other extracurricular activities such as One-Act Play.
Favorite Books:
Anything with a story line. Something to take me away to another world. I relied on books to keep my mind off where I was during my deployments. I would love to have more Douglas Adams books, but he left us too soon.
Favorite Quotes:
"Don't let schooling get in the way of your education." Mark Twain
Interests:
Watching the "lightbulb" when students gets it. Going home to five large breed dogs wagging tails and nubs. Building things by hand.
Employment History:
The 80s into the early 90s, dead end jobs. 1992-2013 USAF, 2016 to present High School English teacher.
