Personal Information:
About Me:
My name is Catherine Kelly and I have been teaching seven years. I have three grown children and was a stay at home mom until my youngest went to school and then I took the plunge and went to college to fulfill my dream of becoming a teacher. I am what I consider a life long learner and I wanted to share my love of learning with students.
College and Degrees:
I attended Oswego State and graduated Magna Cum Laude in December 2000. I received my Master's from Walden University in May 2005. I loved getting my degree from Walden because it was on-line and I was able to use a great deal of technology and be interactive with people from all over the country.
Activities:
I am crafty. I love to sew, knit, crochet, and play piano. I also like photography although I am not very good at it. The proof is in the pictures, missing heads and such...but it is still fun to try. My students like it when I make mistakes and things, but I explain that is how we learn.
Favorite Books:
My favorite books are Harry Potter books. I also love James Patterson books. I am a children's book junkie. I will buy all sorts, read them and create activities to support them for my students. I am an avid reader.
Favorite Quotes:
If you want your life to be more rewarding, you need to change your way of thinking. (Oprah)
You must be the change you want to see in the world. (Gandi)
Interests:
My interests are family, friends, my students, reading, and relaxing.
Employment History:
September 2001-current: I spent my first three years as a 4th grade teacher, and the last 4 years as a 6th grade teacher.
Why Do I Teach?:
What other profession can you have such reciprocation going on in one room. As a life long learner I am able to share what I know and intertwine that with as many as 25 students every day. We take prior knowledge and build a whole new way of learning. Everyday is different because it depends on what we as a whole, bring to the table each day. It is an experince like no other. To be able to help guide and foster the minds of tomorrow is such a great honor and priviledge. It was my dream and now is my passion and I am so happy to call myself a teacher.
