Class Description:
Our classroom is a wonderful place to be! Our classroom provides direct instruction to several students in the areas of reading and math. We also provide sensory activities, work on social and life skills, and provide behavioral management techniques to the students as well as to other teachers. We have a lot of fun in here and hope enjoy reading about us!
Position:
Autism Teacher
Needs:
Our needs include access to more technology programs such as computers, educational software, life and social skills software, audio recorders for books, a camera, and specially designed computer accessories for students who aren't able to talk. We also need sensory equipment such as therapy bouncing balls, tactile materials and scooter boards.
My Philosophy:
My philosophy has developed over the years into a "whatever works" approach. Our students typically don't fit the mold so I have to be creative and innovative on finding things that help. Everyday we hear about heroes, people who did something great, did something inspiring or did something while risking their own life. We too also have heroes, right in our classroom! These kids learn despite the stigmata of being labeled, they fight to enhance the knowledge, they struggle to make friends and yet never stop trying, they know how it feels to be alone and yet strive to get through it. To me, that is heroic.
