JHS 113 Ronald Edmonds
Hometown:
Roseburg, Oregon
Class Information:
Room Number: 320
Students per Class: 100
Class Description:
Our school is divided into three sub-school and my sixth grade students were accepted into the our technology sub-school because they demonstrated interest and aptitude. My sixth grade students are very eager technology learners. Many students do not have computers at home, so they are excited to learn skills that interest them and can immediately be applied in other aspects of their lives. Throughout the year, students will focus on learning technology basics, such inner hardware and outer hardware, word processing, desktop publishing, blogging, podcasting, etc. in order to be prepared for more advanced projects in the seventh and eighth grade.
Position:
Technology Instructor
Needs:
I have a nice, yet outdated computer lab (We are running XP and Office 2003). I am very lucky to have a SmartBoard and overhead projector, which students and I use for demonstration and practice. My printers are out of warranty and cannot be fixed, so I am desperately seeking printers. I also do not have wonderful tools such as cameras and video cameras to enhance instruction and projects.
My Philosophy:
I believe in the importance of closing the digital divide. Everyone should have equal access to technology, which is why I often open my lab to the entire school before school, during my lunch and preparation periods and after school. My students should learn basic skills while completing projects allowing them to connect with cultures around the world and contribute to environmental preservation. My students should feel empowered to use their technology skills to contribute to a more socially and environmentally just world.
