University Preparatory Academy
Hometown:
Detroit, MI
Class Information:
Room Number: 201
Students per Class: 16
Class Description:
My class is comprised of 16 wonderful kids. Our classrooms are called advisories and I am the advisor. My students have been together since 9th grade. Some have even been together since 6th. This is their senior year and they are now making plans to attend a post-secondary institution. The wonderful thing about my class is the diversity of interest, attitudes and dreams. No two students are the same. They range from the chef to the school spirit, homecoming queen to the guitar player, to the avid child care provider! They are all beautiful kids that I know will be successful adults one day!
Position:
Advisor
Needs:
The needs of our adivisory ranges from cameras to books. I have a strong passion for technology and integration of various tools in our advisory. I would love for my students to have cameras to work with as well as books to learn more information from.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am teacher at University Prep High School. I have only been teaching for 3 years. I love my kids. I have had them since they were in the 10th grade. This has allowed me to establish a strong connection with them. I am mother of one daughter. She is 13. She also has a new sister. A maltese I got in April. Her name is Couture! (I don't think she likes to think of her as her sister, but I do!) I graduated from schools in Detroit and now I am teaching the very same students that came from the same area I grew up in!
College and Degrees:
I attended Wayne State University. I received my bachelors of Education - Secondary and my masters in Instructional Technology - Interactive Technologies.
Activities:
I am involved in a host of organizations. I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. - a community service organization. I am also a member of NAACP. I am also the Yearbook Advisor of my school.
