Class Information:
Room Number: 111
Students per Class: 19
Class Description:
I currently teach a small class-size 3rd grade. I have a distinct number of students below, or well-below grade level. I also have a handful of gifted students who can use extra opportunities!
Position:
teacher
Needs:
Due to our school's setting, and socio-economic background, we do not qualify for additional help or services through Title I, Reading First, or other grant programs.
My Philosophy:
Every child CAN learn. It is my job to figure out HOW! :)
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am 33 years old, and have been teaching in Port Huron for the past 10 years. I have three children, ages 4, 5, and 8. Education has ALWAYS been my highest priority, and I have loved teaching since the day I started!
College and Degrees:
I have my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education for Central Michigan University. I have an English major and Child Development minor, including a ZA endorsement. I hold a Masters Degree in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College in Detroit, and am currently working on several classes through Phoenix University implementing technology in the classroom.
Activities:
I enjoy reading, cooking, biking, and running. I play tennis, though not well... I enjoy it! ;)
Favorite Books:
The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin has been my favorite book since I first read it in 8th grade. I have read it EVERY year since! I'm also a fan of Kate DiCamillo's. I love her diversity in genre writing, my favorite being Because of Winn Dixie.
Favorite Quotes:
"Fall seven times, Stand up eight" - old Chinese proverb.
Interests:
Introducing my students to the technology that they will need to be successful in life! I love staying current on what is available, and what I can bring to my classroom.
Employment History:
I have been teaching in the Port Huron Area School District since I graduated from college in 1998. I have taught all grade levels, 1st through 5th grades. I have been in 3rd grade for 5years now.
Why Do I Teach?:
Every day is a new adventure. I don't feel like I teach, as much as I learn every day. I introduce ideas to my students, and then just follow their lead! THEY are amazing teachers.
